Auburn, ME - In their final home game of the 2017 season, the Central Maine Mustangs hosted the Unity Rams in a non-conference matchup on a brisk, windy day.  The Mustangs were looking to even the season series with Unity in front of their home crowd after losing a well-played conference game early in the season at Unity, as well as notch their programs first ever win against the Rams. 

Similar to the last time they played, Unity came out as the aggressor and controlled play in the early part of the game, but the Mustangs in a three-back defensive set-up limited the Rams to just six shots in the first half, most of which were from a distance.  After about 10-minutes, the Mustangs began to get adjusted to what the Rams were offering and at the 38-minute mark, Megan Duval, playing in her final home game for Central Maine, put her team out in front after a pass from midfielder Ellie Harrington.  The Mustangs would carry their 1-0 lead into the locker room at half-time. 

For the 2nd half, the Mustangs came out in a different formation using a four-back defensive line and three midfielders to protect their lead.  12-minutes into the second half, freshman forward Brittany Greig scored off a passing combination from Duval and Harrington to give Central Maine a 2-0 lead.   Just 8-minutes later, Duval would score again, her ninth goal of the season, off a pass from Greig to put the Mustangs comfortably ahead at 3-0.  Six minutes later, an own-goal by the Unity defense gave Central Maine a 4-0 lead and the score would remain that way for the rest of the game.  

Mustang goalkeeper Ali Sult, the Yankee Conference leader in saves, recorded six more saves to keep her on top of the standings and give her a second shutout for the season.  The 4-0 win over Unity put the Mustangs overall record at 6-5 (4-3 in conference).     

Central Maine is back in action in their final game of the season in Orono, ME against the University of Maine Women's Soccer Club team.
