Mustangs Recruit Day a Success

Mustangs Recruit Day a Success

Auburn, ME – The CM women and men's soccer team sponsored their sixth annual soccer recruit day this past Saturday on campus. Head Men's Soccer Coach, Bryan Wallace, and Head Women's Soccer Coach Rod Rodriguez welcomed over 20 players, from Maine and beyond, for an opportunity to meet their new teammates and coaching staff.

The weather played havoc but each team was able to get some time in the indoor turf facility.

According to Coach Rodriguez, "We had seven recruits, in graduating classes from 2019 to 2021, all making first-time visits to our campus. The round-table session about the difference between high school and college allowed for a great discussion by our current players, answering some excellent questions from the recruits and their parents about scheduling, campus life, and being a college athlete. The field session was fun and the recruits looked very good mixing in with our current team. Feedback from all of them was that it was a good experience, they want to come back for another visit, and they were really impressed at our ability to quickly adjust the logistics of the event to account for the bad weather that day."

Men's Coach Wallace adds, "I was really pleased with the turnout and effort today. We had twenty guys here and we had a good mixture of incoming freshman and returning players. This optional training session is really beneficial to the players and the staff. It allows players a little insight as to how we operate our program and what we expect. They can get some nerves and shake some rust off before preseason/tryouts begin. This brief training also lets the coaches concentrate on player evaluation and reviewing how a particular player will contribute to the team this fall."

Athletic Director Dave Gonyea added, "This was a great opportunity for incoming parents and kids to see how CM works, meet new team mates and tour the campus.  I was impressed with the quality of players in workouts.  All can't wait for the season to begin!"
