Women's Soccer blanked by NHTI

Auburn, ME - Just over twelve hours after returning from their Rhode Island trip, the Central Maine Lady Mustangs hosted top ranked NHTI in a conference matchup. On a windy day in Auburn, the Mustangs quickly found themselves in defensive mode right from the start and it only took about seven minutes for Lynx forward Maura Hart to find the net and put NHTI up 1-0. Two minutes later Hart scored the second of her three goals on the day and the Mustangs quickly found themselves in a 2-0 deficit.

A defensive adjustment from their three-back system to a four-back set up allowed Central Maine to tighten up in the back and begin to move the ball up the field a bit. The Mustangs got into a rhythm and were able to attack numerous times but the NHTI defense was preventing any dangerous shots by the Central Maine offense.

Hart would score her third goal of the day at the 28-minute mark and the rest of the half saw back and forth play up and down the field. The teams went into half-time with a 3-0 NHTI lead.

The Mustangs came out with a few midfield adjustments and started to make a game of it in the second half but were not able to find the Lynx net.  The second half remained scoreless and the game ended with a 3-0 NHTI win.

Ali Sult (Lisbon, ME) stopped 14 shots for the Mustangs while NHTI goalkeeper Tess Witmer made 4 saves to get the win.

The Mustangs next game is Friday September 28th at 4 pm in Orono against the University of Maine Women's Club Team.
