Women's Soccer falls to UMaine Club in exhibition

Orono, ME - The Lady Mustangs traveled to Orono last Friday to play the first of two games this season against the University of Maine Women's Club team, a good opponent who plays in the New England Division of the NIRSA League. The Mustangs were playing after taking most of the week off to recover from their previous stretch of 5 games in 8 days the week before and the downtime showed in the lack of movement and precision in their passing game, but the recovery time was needed to be able to recharge for the remainder of their season schedule.

A well-balanced and skilled UMaine team outshot the Mustangs in the first half by 16 to 3 with the Central Maine defense holding strong taking a 0-0 score into halftime. The second half saw slight improvement in the Mustang offense, taking 7 shots to UMaine's 17, with a few good opportunities at the UMaine net, including a cross-bar shot by Cassidy Hart (Buckfield, ME). The shot differential was just too much to keep the score even and UMaine scored a couple of quick goals midway through the second half to finish the game with a 2-0 win.

The Mustangs are back on the road for two non-conference games on Friday, October 5th at Unity College and Saturday, October 6th with a trip to Amherst, MA to play Hampshire College.
