Mustangs Spoil Knights Home Opener

Randolph, VT - The Mustangs traveled to Randolph, VT for their second game of the season and the Knights home opener.    The two teams, very unfamiliar with each other were both cautious in the first half not wanting to make the first mistake.   It was an evenly played match at midfield although Vermont Tech held the edge in shots in a first half that ended 0-0.

The second half was about to become much more exciting very quickly.   Samantha Belardo (Russell, MA) immediately opened the scoring for Central Maine on an assist by Savannah Fisher (Lisbon, ME) to all of a sudden put the Mustangs up 1-0.   The lead would only hold for ten minutes until Dayna Goodell evened it up for the Knights on an assisted goal.   Eleven minutes later, a stolen ball at midfield and a breakaway through the Knight defense by Katelynn Greene (Poland, ME) gave Central Maine back the lead 2-1.   Vermont Tech would claw their way back again at the 77 minute mark on an unassisted goal by Emily Grady to level the score at 2-2.   It only took the Mustangs four minutes for Rachel Dunn (Marshfield, MA) to get the game winner on an assist by Deliah Schreiber (Lisbon, ME), giving Central Maine a 3-2 lead with 9 minutes left to go in the game.   Five minutes later Schreiber sealed the win at the 86 minute mark with an unassisted goal.   The exciting 4-2 Mustang win, while spoiling the Knights home opener, gave the Randolph, VT crowd a very entertaining match.
