CMCC Mustangs Claim YSCC Title, Advance to USCAA National Championship

SOUTH PORTLAND, Maine (YSCC) – The Central Maine Community College (CMCC) Mustangs secured the 2025 Yankee Small College Conference (YSCC) Championship with a dominant fourth-quarter performance, defeating the University of Maine at Augusta (UMA) Moose 74-61 on Sunday at the HUB Athletic Center. CMCC punches its ticket to the USCAA National Championship tournament with the victory, while UMA awaits a potential at-large bid.

The matchup was competitive throughout the first half, with UMA holding a narrow 32-28 lead at halftime behind strong play from Alisyn Alley, who finished with 19 points, four rebounds, and four assists. CMCC's Rosa Prieto kept the Mustangs close with her efficient shooting, ultimately earning Tournament MVP honors with 17 points on 6-of-7 shooting, including a perfect 4-for-4 from beyond the arc.

CMCC found its rhythm in the third quarter, outscoring UMA 17-12 before pulling away in the final frame. The Mustangs erupted for 29 fourth-quarter points, fueled by Chantel Ouellette, whose defensive efforts disrupted UMA's offense and earned her the Defensive Player of the Tournament award.

Meanwhile, Alley was named Offensive Player of the Tournament, showcasing her ability to score at all three levels. However, her efforts weren't enough to overcome CMCC's balanced attack.

The Mustangs received contributions from across the roster, including Ella Lavigne with 13 points and six rebounds and Jenny Chaput, who added 12 points and made seven free throws off the bench. CMCC also capitalized on second-chance opportunities, grabbing 28 rebounds as a team.

UMA's Sage Fortin led all scorers with 19 points, while Lillian Cox added a double-double with nine points and 14 rebounds.

CMCC's late-game execution sealed their YSCC Championship victory. They now aim to compete for a USCAA National Championship. UMA will await whether they receive an at-large bid to join them on the national stage.
