SOUTH PORTLAND, Maine – The Southern Maine Community College (SMCC) women's volleyball team won three straight sets against in-state rival Central Maine Community College (CMCC) at the HUB Gymnasium on Wednesday, Oct. 2.
The Seawolves defeated the Mustangs in each set by a 7-point margin or greater. SMCC recorded its best offensive performance of the night in the first, landing 10 kills off 22 attempts, to take control early. The Seawolves would continue to find success in the second and third sets, beating the Mustangs 25-12 and 25-18, to secure an impressive Yankee Small College Conference (YSCC) win.
First-year Yana Montell (Gardiner, Maine) connected on seven kills and a kill percentage of 41.7%. First-year Lillian Andreasen (Gorham, Maine) totaled eight kills and a kill percentage of 30.0%.
First-year Dalia Nelson (Kennebunk, Maine) landed three service aces with no errors, she also handled nine digs. Junior Anna White (Buxton, Maine) added five kills and 13 digs for the Seawolves.
SMCC's ability to limit errors on the defensive end and capitalize on offensive opportunities, jumps them to 13-1 overall, 9-1 in conference play.
The Lady Seawolves plan to host USCAA Div. 1 Bay Path University on Saturday, Oct. 5. First serve inside the HUB Gymnasium is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
