Mustangs edge Seawolves 1-0 in Auburn

AUBURN, Maine – The Southern Maine Community College (SMCC) women's soccer team went on the road to face in-state rival Central Maine Community College (CMCC) on Wednesday, Sept. 18. 

The first half would conclude in a stalemate, both teams being unable to find the back of the net. The Mustangs scored the lone goal of the game in the 47th minute when Destiny Mooers connected a shot from Lily Caban, giving her team a 1-0 lead. The Seawolves would have opportunities to tie up the score, but couldn't find the equalizer, leading to the Mustangs victory. 

Throughout the game, the Mustangs compiled 17 shots with 12 of those being shots on goal. The Seawolves tallied six shots, three of those on target.

The Mustangs' goalkeeper, Emma Knowles, made three saves, while SMCC's goalkeeper, Grayson Soldati (Portland, Maine) totaled 10. 

The result moves the Seawolves to 2-2-1 on the season. 

SMCC returns home to play conference foe Albany College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences (ACPHS) on Saturday, Sept. 21. Kickoff at Wainwright Sports Complex is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
