YSCC Men's final set with #3 VSUR Knights facing #1 Great Bay

SOUTH PORTLAND, Maine (YSCC) – Two intense matchups highlighted the men's Yankee Small College Conference (YSCC) action on Saturday, as Great Bay Community College punched its ticket to Championship Sunday with a commanding 79-67 victory, while Vermont State University Randolph edged out Central Maine CC in a thrilling 71-67 battle, setting the stage for an exciting conclusion to the tournament.

1 Great Bay CC Herons vs #4 Albany College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences Panthers

The Great Bay Community College men's basketball team punched its ticket to Championship Sunday with a commanding 79-67 victory over Albany College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences on Saturday afternoon.

The game started with intensity as both teams traded early baskets, but Great Bay's offense found its rhythm quickly. Behind a dominant performance from Theodore Wolfe, who tallied a game-high 27 points and 14 rebounds, the Herons built a 10-point lead at halftime (46-36) and never looked back.

Albany College of Pharmacy fought hard in the second half, led by Brett Richards, who scored 21 points while adding six rebounds and four assists. Tristan Lisbony also contributed 16 points, knocking down four three-pointers to keep Albany within striking distance. However, Great Bay's defense held firm, forcing key turnovers and maintaining control of the boards.

Alongside Wolfe's stellar performance, Mpore Semuhoza provided a crucial spark for Great Bay, scoring 21 points and grabbing 10 rebounds, including four three-pointers. Ethan May orchestrated the offense with five assists, while Sean Chanakira and Keith Landry added timely buckets to seal the win.

Great Bay finished shooting 48.4% from the field and controlled the glass with a 36-25 rebounding advantage. Albany shot 42.9%, but struggled to close the gap down the stretch as Great Bay's defense clamped down.

With the victory, Great Bay moves on to the USCAA Championship game on Sunday at 3 PM, where they will look to cap off their strong season with a title.

#2 Central Maine CC Mustangs vs #3 Vermont State University Randolph Knights

In a thrilling showdown, Vermont State University Randolph mounted a late-game surge to edge Central Maine CC, 71-67, securing a spot in the next round.

The matchup was a battle from the start, with both teams exchanging leads throughout the game. Central Maine CC (17-3, 12-4 YSCC) took a 29-27 advantage into halftime behind the strong inside presence of Khaden Moore (19 PTS, 7 REB) and key perimeter shooting from Will Duke (16 PTS, 4-7 3PT FG).

However, Vermont State Randolph (12-19, 12-4 YSCC) found its rhythm in the second half, outscoring CMCC 44-38. Jaylon Calvin was the catalyst, delivering a game-high 25 points, including three three-pointers, while Tyler Allen (20 PTS, 8 REB) controlled the paint and anchored the defense.

Despite a strong push from Da'Vohn Jonas (13 PTS, 6 REB, 2 BLK) and J.T. Pound (16 PTS, 11 REB) in the closing minutes, Vermont State Randolph executed down the stretch. Calvin's late free throws and a crucial defensive stop sealed the win, sending the team into the next round.

Vermont State finished the night shooting 57.1% from the field, compared to Central Maine's 44.6%, while also winning the rebounding battle 25-23.
