Men’s Soccer falls short in YSCC Finals

ALBANY, N.Y.—The Southern Maine Community College (SMCC) men's soccer team made a Yankee Small College Conference (YSCC) finals appearance on Sunday, Nov. 5, suffering a 4-1 loss to the #1 Mustangs from Central Maine Community College (CMCC).

The Seawolves narrowly defeated the hosts and #3 Albany College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences 1-0 on Saturday, Nov. 4 in the semifinal round. SMCC was issued a red card in the first half and played a man down for the remainder, scoring in the closing minutes of regulation courtesy of first-year Carsen Cyr (Madawaska, Maine).

SMCC moved on to the championship game, its third meeting with CMCC this season. The Mustangs went ahead 1-0 at the half, followed by a goal from first-year Josiah Irish (Gorham, Maine) minutes out of the break. Jeremiah Gomez regained the lead for the Mustangs and CMCC's Ivan Domingues netted his second and third of the day to secure the win.

The Seawolves landed three to the All-Conference Team to include sophomore William Perry (Gorham, Maine), and first-years Irish and Cyr. Following the championship game, first year Costa Tshiyombo Tshibasu (Democratic Republic of the Congo) was named Defensive Player of the Tournament.

The Seawolves will await the USCAA National Tournament Bid Show on Wednesday, Nov. 8 to find out if they will extend their season in Pittsburgh. Penn. with an at-large bid.
