Cromwell’s Season-High 29 Leads SMCC Over Rival CMCC

SOUTH PORTLAND, Maine – The Seawolves (11-4) topped the in-state rival Mustangs (9-3) of Central Maine Community College (CMCC) behind a clutch 29-point performance from senior captain DeSean Cromwell (Biddeford, Maine) on Wednesday, Dec. 14.

SMCC went into the locker room at halftime down by four, 31-27, but stormed back for the double digit victory by ramping up the defensive intensity and out-scoring CMCC 37-20 in the second half. The Seawolves held the Mustangs to 25 percent (16-64) shooting from the field and 24.1 percent (7-29) from three-point land as a team.

Cromwell posted 29 points on 8-20 shooting from the field, including 4-8 from long-range and 9-11 from the charity stripe, adding eight rebounds, three assists, three steals and two blocks. Sophomore captain Thomas Martinotti (Harwinton, Conn.) followed up with 13 points and five rebounds and first-year Liam O'Neil (Hudson, N.H.) had seven points and three rebounds. First-year Randy Vasquez (Methuen, Mass.) notched four points and seven rebounds, and reigning YSCC Player of the Week Jack Pyzynski (Saco, Maine) totaled three points, four boards and two assists in the win.

Cam Pollock led CMCC with 12 points off the bench. Wyatt Hathaway scored 10 points.

The Seawolves handed the Mustangs their first in-conference loss of the season and currently sit in third behind CMCC and the University of Maine at Augusta at 5-2 in YSCC play. SMCC will be back in action on Sunday, Jan. 8 at the Community College of Rhode Island following winter break.
