SOUTH PORTLAND, Maine—The Southern Maine Community College (SMCC) men's soccer team concluded its regular season with a home/away sweep of the Mustangs from Central Maine Community College on Senior Day 1-0 on Monday, Oct. 14.

Based on SMCC's previous 3-2 overtime result over Central Maine earlier this season, this game lived up to expectations. Offense was something of a premium as both teams were held scoreless for 109 minutes.

It was SMCC's Yaroslav Philbrook (Chernigov, Ukraine) who lined up to take a free kick just outside the box with 30 seconds remaining in the double overtime period. Philbrook served a bending ball into the six that was met by first-year Nathan Tshibemba (Kinshasa, Congo DR) and slotted by the Mustang keeper.

Sophomore Camden Labrecque (Saco, Maine) and first-year Joshua Nagle (Biddeford, Maine) split time inside the goalmouth to combine for seven saves and a clean sheet to push the SeaWolves to 11-2 overall—its best season since 2012. The Mustangs conclude their regular season at 6-4-2 overall.

Following the game, SMCC Athletics honored and gave thanks to seven graduating players who have contributed two or more years to the program—Sereyreach Dy (Phnom Penh, Cambodia), Yaroslav Philbrook (Chernigov, Ukraine), captain Maxwell Pushaw (Hope, Maine), Stephen Brady (Rochester, N.H.), captain Syohga Cusumano (Okinawa, Japan), Jonathan Bryant (Moultonborough, N.H.), and Orion Beers (Raymond, Maine).

In a post-game interview, Head Coach Brian Dougher commented, "A hard fought match by both sides. I'm happy to finish the regular season in the win column, especially on senior day. Thank you to all of our graduating players for their devotion to the program!"

The SeaWolves earn themselves a first-round bye as the #1 seed to the Yankee Small College Conference (YSCC) final four weekend in Concord, N.H. SMCC will play the winner of #5 University of Maine at Machias vs. #4 Unity College on Saturday, Oct. 26.
