Baseball loses season opener

Concord, NH - The Central Maine Community College (CMCC) Mustangs travelled to New Hampshire Technical Institute (NHTI) on Saturday to take on the Lynx in their 2019 season opener. The Lynx took the lead early and never relinquished as the Mustangs suffer the loss in 7 innings, 14-3.

With the Mustangs trailing 3-1 after the first, they quickly answered with two runs of their own in the top of the second to tie the game 3-3, but the Lynx bats continued in the bottom of the inning and the Mustangs offense would fail to keep up as the Lynx score 4 in the third and 5 in the fourth to cap off a 14-3 victory. NHTI would score 14 runs on 15 hits committing 2 errors, as the Mustangs would score 3 runs on 8 hits.

Offensively, shortstop Jordi Valls (Guatemala City, Guatemala) went 3 for 4 with 1 RBI, and second baseman Zach Mann (Gray, ME) added an RBI of his own going 2-3 with a walk. Nick Powers (Lewiston, ME) and Tristen Chaine (Bridgton, ME) were the only two baserunners to cross the plate as the Mustangs left a total of 9 runners on base in 7 innings.

Freshman Jackson Allen (Whitefield, ME) suffers his first loss of the year giving up 9 runs on 12 hits in 3 innings pitched. Freshman Cameron Godbois (Rumford, ME) pitched a solid 3, no-hit innings in relief with 1 walk and 3 strikeouts.

The Mustangs will travel to Bridgton Academy on Wednesday, 9/11, to take on the Wolverines in Exhibition game play.
