Auburn, ME – The Central Maine Athletic Department is pleased to announce Corey David, a 2013 graduate of Westport High School in Ocala, Florida has signed on to attend Central Maine this fall. David, a 6'0" point guard was the catalyst for his prep teams' success last year averaging 8.7 points per game, dishing out 7 assists per game, and hauling down 8 rebounds per game.
Corey responded to the following questions:
CM: Why did you choose CM?
Corey: I chose CM because it was the best opportunity for me to grow as a person and a player. In addition, it is the best place for me to make it to the next level!
CM: What did you like about the campus?
Corey: The thing I liked about the campus is that everyone treats each other like family and everyone supports all the sports!
CM: How do you think playing college basketball will differ from your previous experience?
Corey: The speed and tempo of the college game is intense.
CM: What are you most looking forward to about attending and playing basketball at CM?
Corey: Make lifelong friends with my teammates and hopefully-- win a championship!
CM: What do you think you can bring to the team next year?
Corey: What I bring to the team is definitely experience, leadership and just hard work!
CM: Describe your basketball experience.
Corey: My basketball experience has been a crazy ride. I was at the College of Central Florida three years ago and left due to personal reasons. I then decided to go prep to focus on my all-around game and to get bigger and stronger for the college level!
CM: What is your biggest strength in basketball?
Corey: My biggest strength is running an offense/team, getting my teammates involved, scoring when I have to, creating my own shot, and my high basketball IQ
Head Men's Coach Dave Gonyea added, "Corey is an older, more experienced, point guard which can translate to a more mature, stable ball handler and distributor. The last point guard we brought in similar to Corey was Luis Medina four years ago and he transformed our offense into a hundred point a game machine. Corey reminds me a bit like Luis."
"Kudo's go out to our assistant coach Jesse Dixon who is responsible for recruiting Corey. I can see Corey taking over a positive leadership role in our program."
Coach Dixon comments," Corey was a standout guard on the prep level that faced tough competition including D1 Junior colleges around the state of Florida. While in prep school, Corey averaged 15.5 per game and 8.7 assist per game for Game on Rise Academy. He is a strong guard who shows great ability to lead a team. His ability to create shots for others and make the open shot will make him a great asset on the college level."
