Auburn, ME – Central Maine Head Men's Basketball Coach Dave Gonyea today named his captains for the 2019-20 Mustang basketball squad.
Three-year veteran Corey David, from Ocala, Florida, second year player Matt Attard, from Sunbury, Australia, and second year player Malik Farley from Orlando, Florida will represent the team as captains.
Corey David: Corey has been the glue to the squad from the post season last year to the pre-season this year. His veteran presence, understanding of the system, and commitment to the program put him in the category of the Dempsey's, Cyr's, Sceviours, Olayemi's, Skinner's, and Medina's. He took an off-season leadership role assisting in putting this year's squad together. A quiet leader, he will be looked upon for his steady hand and role modeling to move the team forward.
Matt Attard: Matt is a special kind of person. Well-liked by his teammates, Matt works hard on the court and is an example in the classroom. He is respected by all, and has a year experience under his belt at CM. He brings a strong work ethic to the team, leads by example, and gets it done on the court.
Malik Farley: Malik is the emotional leader of the squad and constantly brings the best out in his teammates. He sacrifices his body on the court, has a willingness to bang with the big guys, and pound for pound is as good as any rebounder in the league. He is the "go to" guy for his teammates when they are having a tough day and is understanding of their situation."
Coach Gonyea: "We are fortunate to have good leaders this year. Each guy brings something different to the table. Corey is the gas that makes us go. Not overly loud, he let's his play do the talking. Matty is such a classy, well liked kid, his teammates cheer loud for him as he does them. Malik is loud and proud. He keeps all the guys on a positive plane and works hard himself."
The squad opens up the season as they do every year with the 25th annual Can-am tournament held at CM on October 27th and 28th.
