Mustangs Out Played in 72-61 Loss

Auburn, ME – Outplayed, out worked, and a lack of focus with details cost the Mustangs today as the Bryant Stratton Bobcats came into Kirk Hall and beat the home team 72-61.  Playing its third game in four days, the tired Mustangs looked worn down, undisciplined, and out of sorts all afternoon.

A sloppy first half, poor shooting and a defense that broke down in the half court put the Mustangs to a 34-27 disadvantage at halftime.  The team just couldn't get untracked and was ineffective all game long.  CM played all eighteen players looking for a spark, an energy boost, but it was not to be.

Coach Gonyea reports, "Being tired can't be an excuse.  To win the conference, a team must play two games in two days and, to win a national championship, a team must win three games in three days.  Everything we do is preparing for post-season play.  We just need to get the boys buying in, in all areas –eating patterns, sleeping patterns, and learn how to take care of their bodies.   When you have a bunch of freshman, they think they are invincible and can do everything.  However, our mental fatigue is obvious and shows on the court.  We will learn as we go."

Saikwon Williams led CM with 21 points and 7 rebounds.
