Softball falls in YSCC Tournament

Portsmouth, NH - The Central Maine Community College (CMCC) softball team battled in the Yankee Small College Conference (YSCC) semi-final playoff game to suffer defeat 13-5 by the #2-seeded Southern Maine Community College (SMCC) Seawolves at Leary Field.

Although the Mustangs lost 13-5, it was the best game they played all season. The Mustangs racked up 8 hits, two of which would have been legit over the fence home runs if there was a fence. One by Ali Sult (Lisbon, ME) and the other by Stephanie Jones (Westport Island, ME).

The Mustangs started quick when Alex Bessey (Jay, ME) and Tabie Tlumac (Reidfield, ME) both got on with singles. Megan Theriault (Lewiston, ME) and Sierra Wallace (Phippsburg, ME) each collected hits and RBI's scoring two runs in the first inning.

With the score tied at 4-4 after 4th inning, the Mustangs kept pace and pushed the Seawolves to the limit. They forced the Seawolves to pull their #1 pitcher, but ran out of steam in the 5th inning. The tired Mustangs allowed the Seawolves to open the game up, mercy ruling in 6 innings of play.

The Mustangs were paced by Wallace who collected 2 RBI's while Theriault, Jones and Cagney O'Brien (Newcastle, ME) each collecting an RBI.

Head Softball Coach, Bruce Robertson stated, "The 2019 season was another step forward for our program, with a record number of softball recruits coming in for the fall we will raise the bar as we begin working on our fall 2019 and spring 2020 season."
