Women's Basketball rakes in numerous honors at YSCC Banquet

South Portland, ME - The Yankee Small College Conference held is annual Basketball Awards Banquet earlier today at the Best Western Merry Manor Inn in South Portland. The banquet recognizing student-athletes and coaches for their accomplishments throughout the basketball season. The YSCC coaches/athletic directors select a 5-member 1st Team, a 5-member 2nd Team, Player of the Year, and Coach of the Year while also recognizing the Regular Season Champions. The banquet serves as a prelude to the YSCC Final Four which starts today at 2:00pm.

The entire women's basketball team accepted the plaque for YSCC Regular Season Champions, after finishing 14-2 in the conference, 23-3 overall, and a perfect 13-0 at home. This is the 4th straight year that the Mustangs have taken home the regular season crown.

First year standout, Eliza Brault (Ossipee, NH) was selected as YSCC 1st Team All-Conference. Brault leads the Mustangs in scoring at 11.0 points per game. She is also tied for first on the team with 2.8 steals per game, and is second on the team in three point field goal percentage. She does all of this in just 18-minutes per game. Brault recorded one triple-double this season, and scored a career-high 25 points in the Mustangs YSCC Quarterfinal victory over Great Bay CC.

Junior, Natalie Thurber (Wells, ME) returns to the All-Conference realm by earning 2nd Team All-Conference honors, an award she was also recognized for during her freshman season. Thurber is second on the team in scoring (11.2) and first in three point field goal percentage. In her first two career starts at the point guard position during the last two games of the year, Thurber has connected on TEN three pointers, while averaging 19 points per game during the span.

Head Coach, Andrew Morong, was recognized as the YSCC Women's Basketball Coach of the Year, earning the honor for the second time (2013) in his 9-year career with the Mustangs.

Tate Dolley of UMaine Machias was rightfully selected as the Women's Basketball Player of the Year. 

CM is action THIS afternoon, as they take on the Moose of UMaine Augusta at 2:00pm at Southern Maine Community College in South Portland. A win would send the Mustangs to their 4th consecutive YSCC Conference Tournament Championship Game, which is scheduled to occur on Sunday at 2:00pm.
