Tool Time Blog - 7/7/19

Hoi Hoi,

This week I’m writing to you from Zoutelande, a smaller town in the Netherlands, located right next to the sea. Many of you might know this part of the Netherlands as “the place that flooded”! I can assure you, it is no where near being flooded right now as we’re having quite the heat wave over here. Also we’ve build dunes many many years ago so flooding isn’t really a thing anymore.

This week I’ve started my summer job once again. It’s at my old High School and I’ve been working there for 3 years now. In short, all I do is sort school books. But, because I didn’t think any of you would be interested in reading a whole page about me telling you how many and what kind of books I’ve seen the past week, I interviewed 2 new Lady Mustangs for you. I asked them 3 new questions, that will reveal a little more about them.

Up first is next year’s tallest player, she has the cutest dog, and thinks she is speedy but is nicknamed “sloth” . Famously known as a part of the Thunder and  Lightning from New Hampshire, Kasie Maloney was the first to answer my questions.

To stay in the trend of celebrities, from two weeks ago, I asked Kasie which actor she would have play herself in a movie about her. Apparently she doesn’t have a look alike or a favorite actor who would be willing to dye their hair because Kasie answered me with an ‘I Don’t Know”.

By now I was hoping she did have and answer for my next question, “What is the weirdest food you’ve ever eaten?”. Supposedly, duck is pretty weird in the USA, because Kasie who described herself as a picky eater said that had to be the weirdest thing she had ever eaten. Personally I think the idea of a pickle is a lot weirder, I can’t think of how somebody came across that idea. Whereas duck seems like something you can just, you know, catch in the wild.

My last question was me making sure my teammates don’t understand what I’m saying on the phone. Just kidding, I asked Kasie what other language she would learn if she had the time. As some of you know, and many don’t Kasie speaks, in my opinion, reasonably good Spanish. So her answer was no surprise, being more fluent in Spanish or learning German.

My second interviewee victim was an incoming freshman, who built am Eiffel Tower for her schools prom, she was on campus for the a few days, and led her team to a 17-1 season. Forced to answer my questions was Kylee Joyce, and she exceeded my expectations on the food question!

First of Kylee’s movie, the theme; never giving up in sport and the support system. You may wonder, who is playing Kylee, her answer Melissa Benoist. To me at first a unknown actor, but upon some research she played in Super Girl and Glee. I guess a mix of that gives you Kylee?! I guess we’ll see on the court in a few months.

Now for the weirdest food, I was expecting people to answer with foods that are a regular here in Europe, or something imported from China. But Kylee blew me away with Bug Lollypops, EEEWW! Props to her, because that sounds extremely gross to me. I’m wondering if they flavored it like strawberry or kept the bug taste.

For my last question for this week, language you would want to learn? Just like Kasie, Kylee answered with German. By now I’m wondering how much of European history they teach in the USA. Or if they know who they’re talking to. Because The Netherlands and Germany did have quite a bit of a conflict about 100 years ago. You may have even heard of it, we call it World War I and II. But both of them are in luck because Shamillia, who has lived in Germany, is joining us next year so I guess she will be spending her free time teaching these two girls some German words.

Now it is time for me to spend the rest of this heat wave with my family before I have to go back to work.

Until next week!

- Elena
