Women's Soccer adds Freeport forward to 2020 haul

Auburn, ME - Central Maine Mustangs Head Coach, Rob Rodriguez, is pleased to announce the addition of Freeport High School forward/midfielder Hannah Spaulding to the 2020 recruiting class. Hannah will be studying in the Early Childhood Education program with a plan to become a teacher.

Coach Rodriguez commented, "We were not on Hannah's radar at all when she started looking at colleges, but we went to a game late in the season to watch a player on the opposing team. We kept seeing the same Freeport player using her speed to get to the ball on the outside and finding her teammates with good passes. We were still looking for another fast outside mid to replace the ones who are graduating so we took a chance on contacting her to try to get her in for a visit. She knows how to use her speed to her advantage and she had a willingness to battle bigger and stronger players for the ball. That is exactly the type of player who will be successful for us."

Freeport High School varsity girls coach, Dave Intraversato, added, "She is a phenomenal teammate and very coachable. Hannah has incredible speed down the wing and is always looking to get the ball to the goal usually getting her teammates involved, but when she is able to get her shot off quickly she will usually score. She is very unselfish and loves the game."

On her commitment to CM, Hannah mentioned, "I chose Central Maine for a few reasons. I have been playing soccer since I was ten years old and to have an opportunity to play at the college level is amazing! I went for a tour and fell in love with the small, affordable, and welcoming campus. I was asked what I was interested in pursuing for a course of study and was shown two paths that could put me on way to getting it.  When I was told how I could easily transfer to a four-year college to further my education, save money, and play soccer I was sold!"

She continued, "I feel that playing college soccer will be different from my previous experiences in a number of ways. At the college level I will be working even harder to be the best I can to offer more as a team member. I am excited to have strength and conditioning year round and the practices will be more intense and longer. I am looking forward to meeting new friends and building relationships with the team and I think I can bring enthusiasm, speed, patience with strong passing skills and strong work ethic to the team."
