Mustangs Win First NECHA Championship!!

Nashua NH,

It was championship Sunday as the Mustangs would face Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI) to try to win their first-ever NECHA Championship.

In the first period the Mustangs had a little sloppy start but once the nerves settled down it was Cam Knowles who found the net on a beautiful stretch pass from Nate Marcotte. WPI would answer shortly after with the 1-1 of a face-off play. The Mustangs would continue to pressure but 2 cross bars would see the intermission score be 1-1

In the second period the Mustangs continued pressing and another goalpost was hit before James Sicurella found the back of the net putting the Mustangs up 2-1. The next goal would be a big one as it gave the Mustangs a little more cushion, Jason Melanson would block a shot and beat the goaltender's glove side to give the Mustangs a much-needed 3-1 lead. The Mustangs would not sit back as Jack Keefe found a rebound to make it 4-1 before the intermission. '' Good teams learn from their mistakes I mentioned that we sat back on a 1-0 lead against Calvin and we ended up losing 2-1 and we were not going to make that mistake tonight, we are a much better team when we keep playing our own game and continue to pressure the opponent said Coach Knoren''

The third period arrived and  WPI put lots of pressure on in the beginning to try to spark some energy and get themselves back into the game, however, it was Nate Marcotte with a beautiful deke to make it 5-1 with a great pass from Luke Pomerleau. Cody Ivey and Gabe Poirier would finish off the scoring making the final score 7-1 which would capture the first-ever NECHA Championship in program history.

Coach Knoren Said'' What a NECHA playoff run it's been, being the #3rd seed in the North we weren't seen as favorites but our locker room always had the belief that once we make it to the playoffs we could do something special, we are going to enjoy this feeling for a little while but after that, we are back to business focusing on the National Tournament which will start March 7th.

Thank you for all the support from all the CM Fans around the world!
We are not done yet, why not us?????
