CM Athletics is pleased to announce Jalen Lincoln (Damariscotta, ME), a 2014 graduate from the Precision Machining Technology program at Central Maine Community College has committed to play basketball at the University of Southern Maine next year.
Jalen has been a two year starter for the Mustangs and captain of this year's squad. He was named the CMCC Male Athlete of the Year and Mr. CM basketball this year. He averaged 9 points and 4 rebounds per game; however his stats don't tell the whole story. He helped lead the Mustangs to a 31-3 record and after capturing the Yankee Conference Tournament Championship - a bid to the USCAA National Tournament in Uniontown, Pennsylvania. Competing in the national tournament, on a bigger stage, did not faze the veteran, Lincoln. After a heartbreaking overtime loss to Penn State Beaver in the opening round, Jalen led the Mustangs to a hard earned 12 point victory over Warren Wilson College in the consolation game.
According to CMCC Men's Basketball Coach, Dave Gonyea:
"It has been a pleasure to coach Jalen. He comes to play every night and gives one hundred percent in practice and games. His popularity with his teammates is obvious and ability to relate with the variety of personalities we have here has been key in our success. What USM fans will notice is all the little things Jalen does in a game. His court vision, ability to relate with teammates, and basketball IQ are off the charts. He can adapt to situations on and off the court. Coach Henrikson is getting a solid player."
According to USM Men's Basketball Coach, Karl Henrikson:
"Jalen Lincoln is extremely coachable, mature and versatile. As he did for Coach Gonyea, he will provide unrelenting dedication and a vivid example for others to follow. His experience and skill set will give him an opportunity to contribute in multiple positions on the perimeter. I have no doubt that he will be an asset to the program and a fantastic teammate to our returning Huskies. I am very excited that he will be helping us compete in one of the best leagues and with one of the toughest schedules in DIII ."
