Ferland named Softball captain

Auburn, ME – Mustangs Softball Head Coach, Bruce Robertson, is proud to announce Abby Ferland (Monmouth, Maine), has again been named Captain 2021-22 season fall and spring seasons. Ferland, a graduate of the Life Science program, who is now studying Nursing, missed her sophomore campaing due to Covid-19 cancelling the season.

Ferland helped carry the load for the Mustangs on and off the field during her first season as the starting catcher. She caught in all but two games as a first-year, while batting .333 and playing in every fall game for the Mustangs.

Ferland not only had a great year on the field but in the classroom as well. She has been recognized as Yankee Conference All-Academic, and named a USCAA Academic All-American.

According to Coach Robertson, "Abby had not only stepped up her first season on the field but she has now stepped up as a vocal leader as well. She was named captain her second year but due to COVID-19 did not get a chance to take that title to the field. She did an excellent job during the down-year helping keep players engaged during zoom meetings while staying ready to get back onto the field. Behind the plate she has poise and a commanding presence while running the defense. While in the dugout, she is the first one to keep the team motivated and engaged while on offence. Our roster is in great hands with Abby as its leader."

Ferland added, "During my freshman year we had started to build a solid team. Each girl brought something to the team that made us stronger. We had a good chance of being a real contender in the YSCC Tournament during the spring season, but it was cut short due to COVID. Because of the year and a half lost, we had to say goodbye to some key players and friends, but we have a very talented and strong recruiting class that has come in to join us for the 2021-2022 season. I am excited to help take these girls to the next level of competition and become another team that is a strong contender in the tournament."
