Women's Soccer Ties Unity

CM's Ladies Soccer Team played their first home game today against Unity College.  On offense, Unity dominated the field; however, CM's defense stayed strong.  Brianna Lajoie, CM's center defense, and Gabrielle Ouellette, CM's left defense, consistently overruled Unity's offensive pressure.  Maggie McConkey, CM's leading scorer, was able to sneak away from Unity's defensive pressure, and nail a 30-yard kick into Unity's goal during the first half which put CM in the lead, 1-0.

CM's goalie, Hannah Champagne, ignited the crowd with her 15 saves on goal throughout the game.  Constantly, from all directions and angles, shots were being fired at her, but remarkably, she only allowed one to get by during the second half when Unity took a direct kick from 15 yards away.  Despite Sarah Trott's (CM's left forward) vigorous efforts to score a tie-breaking goal during the second half, she, along with her other forwards were unable to break through Unity's forceful defense, leaving the score 1-1.

CM poured on the pressure in both OT's but could not get a clean look, and the game ended in a 1-1 tie.  Last season, CM lost to Unity (#2 USCAA) 7-2 during their first match, and 2-0 during the second.
