South Portland, ME - Relentless and stubborn full court pressure paid off for the mustangs today as they upended Williamson Trade School (from Philadelphia, PA) by a 73-70 score in the second game of the SMCC invitational tournament. Williamson was coming off a one-point victory on Saturday against the home team, SMCC. The mustangs knocked off Holyoke the same day to set up the Sunday showdown.
CM came out in intense full court pressure taking a quick 14-4 lead. Williamson regained their composure and knotted the game 22-22 in the middle of the half. After back and forth action, CM went to the locker room down 33-32 at the half.
The mustangs continued to use full court pressure to wear down the Mechanics. A mustang ten-man rotation throughout the second half resulted in CM taking a five-point lead at the 5-minute mark. Despite turning over the ball in the last 30 seconds, the mustangs were able to hang on to secure the victory.
Rob Skinner led the squad with 17 points, 8 rebounds, and 4 assists. Cornelius Lawhorn contributed 11 points. Pietro Badalassi contributed 8 points, took down 9 rebounds and dished out 4 assists.
The mustangs are in action again this Thursday when conference opponent Unity College visits Kirk Hall.
