Auburn, ME – A tired Mustang squad limped home late Saturday night from Rutland, Vermont to prepare to play at home the next day. The University of Maine at Machias traveled to CM in the last game of the season on Sunday. This was senior night so everyone was in good spirits and focused on the game.
Three games in a row was the receipt for disaster for the Mustangs as they dropped a 93-74 game to the Clippers.
CM was never in the game. Outgunned and outshot, the home team only shot for 38% from two-point range and a miserable 15% from the arc. Every member of the starting five took a three, and none connected.
We can't take anything away from the Clippers. Despite a four-hour drive, they came to play. Machias big man, Trey Thompson, hit for 20 points, registered 11 rebounds, and simply could not be guarded in the paint. Dante Ramos also added 21 points with 6 rebounds.
This leads to the Yankee Conference pre lim showdown next weekend in Auburn. CM finished the season as the fourth seed and Machias the fifth seed. Game time is yet to be determined but it should be either Saturday or Sunday. The game winner will qualify for the Yankee Conference Final Four schedule February 23rd and 24th at CM.
