Mustangs shutdown Seawolves on Student-Athlete Recognition Night

Auburn, ME - For the second time this season, the Mustangs put the defensive clamps on SMCC holding them to a season-low 40 points. Trailing after the first quarter, the Mustangs gained in the lead before half-time then lead the rest of the game on their way to a 53-40 victory over the Seawolves. The win marked the 16th consecutive win over the Seawolves, a win streak that dates back to February of 2016. Additionally, not only did the Mustangs finish the regular season undefeated at home, but also finished undefeated in the Yankee Conference for the first time since the 2018-19 season.

Luna Love (Zwolle, Netherlands) and Emily Strachan (Lewiston, ME) scored 14 points a piece to pace the Mustangs. Love hit four triples, while Strachan added 5 rebounds, 5 assists, and 2 steals. Elizabeth Barrientos (Manchester, NH) collected a game-high 7 rebounds.

Although the Mustang offense was a little sloppy, their defense and rebounding carried the load. CM held the Seawolves to just 8 points in the second quarter, and 9 points in each of the final quarters. They also out-rebounded the bigger Seawolves by +8 and took 3 offensive fouls.

With the win the Mustangs wrap up the regular season at 24-2 and a perfect 14-0 in the YSCC. They will be back in action on Saturday, March 4th (4:00pm) when they host the winner of the YSCC #4 vs. #5 (TBD) quarterfinal match-up.
