Mustangs Drop Road Game to SMCC

South Portland, ME - The Lady Mustangs fell apart in the second half against a strong Southern Maine Community College squad Tuesday losing by a 6-2 score.

The opening half saw the SeaWolves dominating the attack, outshooting CM by a wide margin, but the Mustang defense was limiting SMCC to mostly long range shots. A brief lapse by the Mustang defense allowed Southern Maine's Jessica Haskell to penetrate the box and put the SeaWolves up 1-0. It only took the Mustangs a minute to even the score when a pass through the Southern Maine defense by Samantha Belardo (Russell, MA) found Deliah Schreiber (Lisbon, ME) who put the Mustangs on the scoreboard. Six minutes later Haskell slipped a pass through the Mustang defense to find Callie O'Brien who put the SeaWolves ahead 2-1. Four minutes later Katelynn Greene (Poland, ME) won the ball at the top of the penalty area and snuck a pass through to the feet of Belardo who put a shot over the head of the SeaWolves keeper to level the score again at 2-2, which is where the half ended.

The second half was all Southern Maine. Three more goals by Haskell and one more by O'Brien kept the Mustangs from mounting a comeback and the game ended in a 6-2 Southern Maine win.

Mustang goalkeeper Ali Sult (Lisbon, ME) made 15 saves off 21 shots on goal.
