Lady Mustangs add local defender

Auburn, ME - The Central Maine Mustangs Women's Soccer team is pleased to announce the addition of Edward Little High School defender, Destany Garland.

Mustangs Head Coach Rob Rodriguez, commented, "Destany is a competitive and tenacious player who will be a good addition to our back line. I love to have some local players because as we work to build our fan base and some excitement around this team, they tend to bring some community support with them. Destany's ability to also play forward and mid will be a plus for us because we do move players around and change formations frequently.   The more versatile a player is, the more valuable they become to us because we like to give different looks to opposing defenses so we keep them guessing and become a difficult team to prepare for."

Edward Little High School girl's varsity soccer coach, Miles Bisher, provided good feedback, "Destany ended up being one of my most reliable defenders at the end of the season, which is where I believe she has the most potential at the next level. To her credit, from day one she said she was willing to play anywhere to help the team and when asked if she would play defense even though she was inexperienced there, she did not hesitate to say yes. As it turns out, she was disciplined, had good field awareness, and communicated well."

On her commitment to the Mustangs, Destany said, "I chose CM because it's affordable and close to home, it was easy to find my way around and the people I have met are really friendly. I am looking forward to meeting new people and I think college soccer will be more competitive and the traveling will be a lot more demanding. I feel like I can bring a good work ethic, attitude and team spirit to the team."

Garland will be enrolled in the General Studies program.
