Women's Volleyball sinks Seawolves

South Portland, ME - In the last game of the regular season, the Mustangs traveled down to South Portland to take on Southern Maine Community College. Even though SMCC came out firing on all cylinders, the Mustangs were able to secure a 4-set victory (25-27, 25-18, 25-23, 25-18).

SMCC fans showed up in force and made the gym environment a very tough place to play. SM fed off that energy and came out swinging in the first set. It was a hard-fought set, and the Seawolves ended up taking it 25-27. The rest of the match was a game of momentum, shifting back and forth between the teams. Both teams took turns going on serving runs, racking up several points on a single rotation. The Mustangs were able to limit the serving runs from SM and ended up winning the next three sets to close out the match.

The Mustangs serve receive struggled all night, making it hard for the Mustangs to find any sort of rhythm offensively. What kept the Mustangs in the game was their defense and blocking. Over the course of the match, the Mustangs tallied up 92 total digs and 8 blocks.  Head Women's Volleyball Coach, Kyle Chapman, said after that match, "Although this was not our cleanest match that we have played, we were able to pull it off. We gave up a lot of points on errors and we cannot do that if we want to win the conference tournament championship next weekend."

With the final win of the regular season, the Mustangs went undefeated in YSCC play for the first time in program history. They went a perfect 10-0, and 30-3 in sets. When asked about the accomplishment, Coach Chapmancommented, "It is cool to reflect on how far this program has come in just a few years. These girls have worked so hard to make this happen, and I am really proud of them. We are not done yet, we still have a week to get into the gym and get better so we can be ready for the YSCC Tournament this coming Sunday."

The Mustangs next matches are going to be at the YSCC Final Four on Sunday, October 22nd @ SMCC. The Mustangs hope continue this winning streak and bring home back-to-back YSCC Tournament Championships.
