Central Maine places 5th at USCAA National Championships

The Mustangs Men's and Women's track and field team journeyed to American International College for the USCAA National Championships, clinching an impressive 5th position out of 14 formidable teams. Each athlete soared to new heights, achieving season and personal bests throughout the event, with two athletes securing All-American performances.

Abbas Mahdi showcased his exceptional talents once again, earning FIRST TEAM ALL-AMERICAN honors and seizing the USCAA Triple Jump NATIONAL CHAMPION title, alongside a remarkable long jump runner-up position. Abbas also exhibited his versatility by clinching placements in the 110 hurdles and anchoring both relay teams.

Shane Johansen ignited the team's momentum on day two with a breakthrough performance in the high jump, engaging in a thrilling battle with Tierick Smith of UMaine Fort Kent. Shane's leap of 6'1.25" marked a personal best, earning him the prestigious title of USCAA National runner-up. He continued his impressive streak with 4th-place finishes in both long jump and pole vault, achieving a 10-foot jump, while leading off both relay teams. Shane's stellar day secured him 2nd team All-American recognition.

Mark Schepici shattered his own school record in the 3000m steeplechase, slashing off an impressive 40 seconds from his earlier season time. Mark's exemplary leadership proved instrumental in propelling the team forward, and his remarkable improvement reflects his dedication and hard work.

Abby Malone demonstrated her growing prowess in the hammer throw, securing a commendable 4th-place finish. She also showcased her skills in discus, javelin, and shot put, continuously pushing her limits and showing promising signs of improvement.

Emily Quinnell delivered an outstanding performance, clinching 7th place in the 1500m and 8th place in the 5k, while also impressing in the javelin event. Emily's personal bests in both running events, despite a short training season, underscore her potential to lead the women's XC team in the upcoming fall season.

Asho Ali rounded out the women's team, showcasing her talents in the 200m, shot put, and discus, achieving her best performance of the season in the 200m event.

Dalton Morang secured a tie for 6th place in pole vault, achieved a season-best in long jump, and contributed as the second leg of the 4x100m team, showcasing his versatility and commitment to the team's success.

Devon Glackin achieved season bests in the 100m and 200m events, demonstrating a remarkable sprint down the stretch in the 200m, improving his position significantly.

Caleb Stocks continued his upward trajectory in his debut track and field season, shaving off another second from his 200m time and enhancing his 400m relay split, contributing to a substantial improvement of 20 seconds.

Joseph Langley displayed promising potential in his first year of throwing, securing notable placements in discus, hammer throw, javelin, and shot put, signaling a bright future ahead.

Joshua Bradford showcased an impressive kick in the relay event, earning him 10th place in the 1500m and contributing significantly to the team's success.

Carter Gregorio delivered a standout performance in triple jump, securing 8th place, while also showcasing his skills in the long jump and shot put.

Tristan Cormier and Chris Gnidehoue qualified for various events, further bolstering the team's strength and depth. Their contributions, along with the support of other behind-the-scenes athletes and staff, played a pivotal role in the team's successful season.
