CCRI slips past Mustangs

Lincoln, RI - The Central Maine Lady Mustangs hit the road Friday, September 21, for their first ever game against the Community College of Rhode Island (CCRI) in a late afternoon kickoff for their first non-conference game of the season. The road-weary Mustangs got off to a good start attacking the CCRI Knights net but were unable to get anything past their keeper.

Although the game was evenly played up and down the field for the full ninety minutes, CM clearly lacked the energy to gain any momentum and mount an aggressive attack. Midway through the first half, the Knights were able to capitalize on a Mustang defensive error and CCRI took a 1-0 lead into halftime.

The second half was a mirror-image of the first with the two teams trading shots and opportunities but neither one able to score. The Knights ended up out-shooting Central Maine by a total of 15 to 11, and in spite of a highly-energized final two minutes, the Mustangs were held scoreless to finish the game with a 1-0 loss to CCRI.

Skyler Henry (Waterford, CT), playing in front of family, friends, and former high school teammates who all drove the short distance to Rhode Island, played an excellent game in the net for Central Maine, stopping 14 shots.

With the loss CM falls to 4-3 on the year, and will be back in action at home on Saturday, September 22, for their final Yankee Conference game against NHTI in a noon kickoff.
