Mustangs Drop Conference Match Up

Concord, NH - Coming off a 5-0 home conference win against Vermont Tech, the Mustangs headed to Concord, NH for their only meeting of the season with New Hampshire Technical Institute, a YSCC conference match up.

With both teams eager to gain the 3 points for a win, it would be the Lynx of NHTI who would seize the day. Central Maine was out of sync from the start, struggled to maintain control of the midfield and just could not get their offense in a rhythm. NHTI would get the lead in the 13th minute when Megan Lancaster scored an unassisted goal to put the Lynx up 1-0. In the 34th minute, NHTI added to their lead on a Piper Flood goal assisted by Lancaster. The half would end with the Lynx taking a 2-0 lead into the break.

Central Maine came out of halftime with a little more energy, regrouped at midfield and showed a little more promise on the attack and the game started to get more balanced between the two teams. However, the Mustangs could not find the net even though they were able to increase their scoring opportunities and reduce those of the Lynx compared to the first half.

In the 70th minute, Lancaster put an excellent shot from just outside the penalty area into the left corner of the Mustang net to give NHTI a 3-0 lead. The game would end twenty minutes later with a 3-0 Lynx victory. Emma Knowles (Manchester, ME) made 9 saves on 12 shots on goal and Madison Lima made 7 saves to get the shut out win.

The Mustangs are back on the road to South Portland to face Southern Maine Community College in a crucial YSCC matchup, the two teams tied 2-2 in an early season meeting. Kickoff is set for 3:30 p.m.
