Manchester, NH – The CMCC Men's and Women's Track and Field teams competed at their first event of the outdoor season on Friday, heading to the Spring Invitational hosted by Southern New Hampshire University. Nine men and three women represented the Mustangs at the meet.
On the women's side, captain Felicia Marin gave Central Maine its best result of the day when she finished 9th out of 32 runners in the 200-meter dash. The Hampden Academy product set a new school record and personal best with a time of 27.45 seconds. Marin also did the same in the 100-meter dash, finishing in 13.20 for 10th place. She rounded out her day in javelin with a best throw of 23.90 meters.
Ella Lavigne had a good showing in the high jump, with a best of 4 feet 7½ inches (1.41m) and came in 17th in the 200 meters with a time of 28.65 seconds. Destiny Mooers competed in the 100-meter hurdles.
"I was extremely proud of how well this group did today," said head coach Brian McDonald. "It has been fun watching this team begin to thrive together. They're building into something special, and I can't wait to see that unfold over the rest of the season."
On the men's side, five competed in the 200-meter dash with Da'Vohn Jonas setting the best time with a 25.27, good enough for 46th place out of 66 competitors. Djordje Stanimirovic (26.29, 54th), Zachary Peirce (27.13, 56th), Robert Spears (28.27, 60th), and Mark Schepici (29.01, 62nd) also set times for the Mustangs.
Joshua Bradford was quickest for CMCC in the 400 meters, finishing 29th with a personal best time of 56.17 seconds. Stanimirovic ended in 33rd place with a run of 58.49, with Brosnan Comeau just behind him with a 59.16. Comeau shined in the mile run, winning his section and finishing 29th overall with a time of 5:00.45. Bradford (5:02.08, 32nd) and Peirce (5:33.72, 44th) also took part. Those three were joined by Stanimirovic for the 4x400 meter relay. The Mustangs finished 6th in their first time out together, posting a time of 3:58.90.
In the longer distances, Spears ran the 800 meters, coming home 27th with a time of 2:28.55. Schepici posted a personal best in the 5K. The Malden, MA native ran a 22:09.86 to finish in 15th place.
In the field events, Central Maine had athletes in the high jump, long jump, shot put, discus, and javelin. USCAA 2nd-Team All-American Shane Johansen was the busiest of the competitors, clearing 5 feet 7 inches in the high jump, throwing 31 feet 11¼ inches in the shot put, 67 feet 8 inches in the discus, and 83 feet 8 inches in the javelin. His javelin throw was a new personal best.
Jonas had the best showing of any of the male athletes, coming in 9th in the high jump by clearing 5 feet 8¾ inches. The freshman also saw his first action in long jump, posting a leap of 15 feet 2¼ inches.
Peirce and Spears also crossed over from the track to the field events. Peirce had a team-best showing in the javelin with a throw of 116 feet 3 inches, beating out Hunter Holt who had a toss of 83 feet 11 inches. Spears had Central Maine's best mark in the discus, reaching 83 feet 4 inches and also beating out Holt who put up a 74 feet 11 inches.
The squad next competes on Saturday, April 5th at the Jim Sheehan Invitational, hosted by Fitchburg State University in Massachusetts.
