Mustangs get back in the win column

Auburn, ME - The Mustangs grinded out a gritty win beating the Colby-Sawyer Chargers 5-4.  The Mustangs would get off to a great start in the first 25 minutes putting 3 past Colby for a comfortable 3-0 lead. Penalty trouble late in the second would allow the Chargers to tie the game with 3 un-answered powerplay goals. ''We had a stretch of 5 minutes that allowed the Chargers to take control of the game, that can't happen,'' said Coach Knoren.

In the third period the Mustangs would have a big penalty kill to start the period and using the momentum, Noah Buisnakis would get a bounce to find the back of the net and make it 4-3. Not letting down the Mustang continue playing their game and pressing, Clayton Hussey split the defensemen and put on top corner for a 5-3 lead.  The Chargers would still continue trying to get back in and finding a little room on the back door made it 5-4.  The last minute was full of players diving and blocking shots, and Bird finding a couple nice saves to seal the deal!

''We were looking for some depth players to step up, we got contribution troughout the whole line up tonight, the last minute is how you build character with some incredibile shotblocks, very proud of the effort tonight,'' said Coach Knoren.

With the win, CM improves to 5-8 on the season. The Mustangs will be back on the road against Saint Joseph's College on Saturday night in Portland for an 8 p.m. puck drop. Stay tuned as we are trying to add a couple more home make-up games!
