Cross Country Competes at UNE

Biddeford, ME - The Mustangs kicked off the 2017 fall Cross Country Season with an action packed day at Rotary Park in Biddeford on Saturday, September 9, 2017 at the University of New England's X-C Invitational.  The Invitational was very large with many competitive runners from Wentworth, UNE, Endicott, RWU, Worcester State, Gordon, Mass Maritime, Maine Maritime, Thomas, Wheelock, Lesley and Mount Ida.  CM did not have enough athletes to score as a team; however, we had four male and three female runners compete individually.

In the men's race, Osman Doorow led the Mustang pack through the 8-kilometer course with a very strong lead, but unfortunately had to check out early to prevent further injury. Men's Captain Kyle LaRoche ran his first collegiate race very strong with a time of 32:20, finishing in 63rd place out of 136 runners.  Troy Peterson ran his first ever competitive race, finishing with a time of 35:54, placing 98th out of 136 runners.  Brandon Powell attempted the 8K course but was not able to finish due to an existing injury.

Women's Captain Kim Plummer led the Women's team through the 5-kilometer course, finishing with a time of 25:54 placing 92/133.  Kristen Carter held her own with a very strong time of 31:09, finishing 116 out 133 runners. Kayla Thayer brought the Mustangs home with a very strong race, finishing with a time of 32:31, placing 120/133.

"I am extremely proud of each Mustang for running a tough race this past weekend.  Rotary Park is a challenging course with some pretty big hills and each CM athlete ran with a lot of gut and determination among a very large field of athletes.  It was encouraging to see such a strong first race for CM, as this was the very first collegiate race for many." – Head Coach, Kevin Mitchell

Central Maine's Cross Country team returns to action this weekend on Saturday, September 16 at Bowdoin College.
