Mustangs Announce a Major Addition to its Hockey Program

Auburn, ME – Head Men's Hockey Coach, Kevin Cady, is pleased to announce Québec native Charles Campagna has committed to the Mustangs.  Charles has been raised in Lac-Megantic, Québec and played hockey his whole life.

Hockey accomplishments:

  • Lions Tournament champions - Bantam 2014
  • Hockey Esterntownships Regional Champion 2010 and 2014
  • Hockey Quebec Provincial Champion 2014
  • Eurotour 2016 – European Tournament Germany
  • 2016 statistics: 28 goals 38 assists 66 points in 40 games

Charles answered the questions below:

CM:  Why did you choose CM?
Charles:  I am familiar with the state of Maine, but also because CM gives me the opportunity to study and play high level hockey at the same time.  Also, I can have the chance to study and live in a different country.

CM: What did you like about the campus?
Charles:  The thing I liked best about the campus was the fact that everything seemed so clean, respectful and close.  It's a great campus, we don't need a map to prevent us from getting lost.  It's simple, I like that!

CM: How will this experience differ from past experiences?
Charles: I see it as a challenge and an opportunity to learn from people I will be in touch with every day.  And it's also going to be a challenge for me to study in a different language than French.

CM: What can you bring to the team next year?
Charles: I think my main asset as a hockey player isn't something that is obvious like shooting, stick handling, or skating….in fact, it's my passion.  It's what pushes me to do things I wouldn't do if I hadn't had that sort of fire power inside me.  It's undescriptive, I can bring so much passion and energy to a lineup.  I just love the game so much!

According to Coach Cady, "Charles Campagna is a crafty right wing from Quebec with soft hands and a nose for the net. Charles is one of those kids that finds a hockey game to play even it means driving three to four hours each way. Central Maine is fortunate to land such a skilled and dedicated student-athlete."

Added CM Athletic Director, Dave Gonyea, "Charles is a major catch for our new program.  He is the kind of personality and character you build your program around.  Charles comes from a solid family structure which can only translate into positive leadership.  Our vision is he becomes a team leader on and off the ice."
