Cross Country Runs in Yankee Championships

Paul Smiths, NY - Over the weekend the Central Maine Mustangs made the long journey to the Yankee Small College Championship hosted by Paul Smiths College in Lake Placid, NY. Five CM runners made the trip to run at the historic Olympic Sports Complex located deep in the Adirondack Mountains. Having played host to the 1980 Winter Olympics, the land now features 8-kilometer and 6-kilometer cross country courses for the men and women, respectively.

Three men ran in the red Central Maine singlet at this year's championship, including Mark Haskell, Isaac Johnson, and Cody Cunningham. Haskell, of Brunswick, was the first CM runner to cross the rain-soaked finish line in 28th place with a time of 36 minutes, 15 seconds. Only one place and twenty-five seconds behind Haskell was Johnson, of Winthrop, with a time of 36 minutes and 40 seconds. Rounding out Central Maine's finishers was Cody Cunningham of Rumford. Cunningham crossed the line in 32nd place in a time of 40 minutes and 52 seconds.

Central Maine had two runners in the women's race, Kristen Carter and Lilly Linscott. Carter, of Lisbon Falls, managed and 11th place finish at this year's championship with a time of 30 minutes and 36 seconds. Linscott of Auburn completed the 6K course in 41 minutes and 39 seconds. Linscott finished in 24th place

The Yankee Small College Conference marks the end of the season for the Central Maine Cross Country team. As the third year of the program comes to a close, the Mustangs are already looking forward to a year full of tough and consistent training in order to come back even stronger next fall!
