Summer College Aspiration Programs Week 1

Summer College Aspiration Programs Week 1

Auburn, ME - We were excited to kick off Week 1 of our 2023 Summer College Aspiration programs. Week 1 consisted of a Youth Softball Pitching clinic, Youth Softball Clinic, Pre-Nursing Simulation and an Art of Expression program.

First, we had our Youth Softball Pitching and Softball Clinics run by the CM Softball coaching staff and players. The youth players were taught basic to advanced pitching fundamentals help improve current pitchers and those interested in learning how to pitch. In the youth softball clinic, players were put through a series of stations where they worked on a variety of hitting and fielding fundamentals. During the Pre-Nursing Simulation, participants were able to discuss different careers in healthcare, they practiced sterile dressings, interacted with "live" mankins, practiced putting on PPE, and did an exercise to learn the importance of communication in the healthcare setting. Department Chair, Kathy McManus, organized and ran the program. Next up we had the Art of Expression program that included participants creating their own mandalas and then transferring them onto a keychain and mug that they were able to take home. Participants learned how mandalas are one of the most widely used forms of artistic expression therapy and have been known to boost our immune system, reduce stress, and ease anxiety. Department Chairs Anne St.Pierre and June Roberts-Sherman were able to organize and run this program.

Thank you to everyone who came to one of our programs this week! We look forward to seeing you back on campus in the near future!
