Mustangs drop two to Nationally ranked teams

Myrtle Beach, SC - On a cold day in Myrtle Beach, the Mustangs baseball team dropped a pair of games against two nationally ranked teams in the NJCAA.

In game one, the Mustangs never showed up and  and got dominated by Bergen Community College 15-2. Zach Mann was the lone bright spot for the Mustangs reaching base four times on two hits including a triple. Garren Post, Colton Frisbie and Kaleb Thompson were the only other Mustangs to record hits. Mason Booker, Jeff Meisner and Brogan McCormick shared the pitching duties for the Mustangs.

"This is the one game this week where I felt we didnt compete," said head coach Ryan Palmer, "It was extremely disappointing."

In game two of the day, the Mustangs went up against the 6th ranked team in the nation in Brookdale Community College. The Mustangs gave the Jersey Blues all they could handle and almost pulled the upset in a 13-9 loss.

After giving up six runs in the first, Mustangs starter Rhen Trinidade settled in and gave the Mustangs a chance. Evan Eldridge had three hits and two runs scored to lead the Mustang offense. Fenway Letendre contributed with two hits and three RBI. The Mustangs loaded the bases in the 7th, but couldnt come up with the big hit. Trinidade, Ayden MacWhinnie and Jack Cote shared time on the mound. After the first inning, Mustangs pitching only allowed three earned runs.

"I really liked how we played after getting beaten up pretty badly earlier in the day," Palmer said, "We didn't back down against a ranked team and gave them a scare."
