Women’s Hockey Scores 23 Goals In Win At Wheaton

Attleboro, MA – The CMCC Women's Hockey program continues to make headlines during its inaugural season, this time by scoring an astounding 23 goals in its win against the Wheaton College Lyons. Leading scorer Emma Knowles had a double hat trick for the Mustangs, while Kylie Spugnardi and Fiona Landry scored five goals apiece in the 23-0 victory. 
 
Central Maine came storming out of the gates with a goal just 56 seconds into the contest. The Mustangs went on to score 11 times in the first period. Gloria San Pedro scored her first collegiate goal at the 1:41 mark to make it 2-0 and McKenna Ridlon registered her first career point with an assist on Landry's goal to make it 11-0 with 1:30 left before the intermission. It was the competitive hockey debut for Ridlon who is also a member of the CMCC softball team. 
 
That tally by Landry finished off a first period hat trick for the defenseman from Lewiston High School. It came just a couple goals after Knowles finished off her first hat trick of the night just 9:45 into the game with an unassisted strike that made it 7-0.  
 
Captain Spugnardi got her hat trick out of the way with a goal 8:03 into the second period, sandwiched in between Landry's fourth and fifth goals of the night. Taylor Melvin also scored her first goal in a Mustangs jersey in the second. The Lewiston, ME native's tally made it 17-0 with 2:33 left in the frame. Spugnardi added one more with 34 seconds left to make it 18-0 heading into the third. 
 
With the outcome long decided the game had a running clock in the third period, but CMCC still managed to score five more times. Kylie Boardman scored her first of the game at the 8:21 mark to make it 21-0. Knowles finished off the double hat trick with 6:52 left to make it 22-0 off Ridlon's second assist of the game. And Claire Bath wrapped things up with her second of the night at 14:20 to complete the 23-0 scoreline. 
 
Goaltender Tatum Hunt only had to make four saves for her first career shutout and every player in the line-up besides the goaltender had at least two points. Landry led the way with nine points on five goals and four assists. Knowles had two helpers to go along with her six tallies and now has a team-leading 12 goals on the season. Spugnardi finished with five goals and three assists, while Bath and Boardman each had a game-high five assists on the night. 
 
CMCC now sits at a perfect 4-0-0 in the program's first season. The two teams are scheduled to meet again down in Massachusetts for what is currently slated to be Central Maine's final game of the season on February 2nd. Next up for the Mustangs is a visit from crosstown rivals Bates College on Saturday, November 16th. Puck drop against the Bobcats is scheduled for 5:30 pm.
