The Central Maine Community College women's volleyball team will have two new faces as the heads of the program in 2024-25. Kevin Bean and Rachael Collins have been named co-Head Coaches ahead of the fall season.
Bean is the Community Sports Aide for the city of Lewiston and is a CMCC alum from the class of '05 where he played basketball and baseball for the Mustangs. He has previously served as an assistant coach with the men's basketball team and as the head coach of the "B" team program from 2017-20.
"I like doing things that challenge me," said Bean. "And whenever I can help out CMCC that's just an added benefit. I believe in putting in the hard work in practice and helping develop a team where teammates trust each other."
Collins has spent the past four years as an assistant coach at the high school level and with the New England Region Volleyball Association (NERVA) 18U program. Her coaching philosophy revolves around mentorship, continuous improvement, and adaptability.
"I'm committed to helping athletes reach their individual and team goals by creating an environment that promotes teamwork, leadership, and communication both on and off the court," Collins said. "The goal is always to empower our athletes to excel in everything they do."
Athletic Director Dave Gonyea is happy to have two good people at the helm of the program.
"Rachael Collins along with Kevin Bean are two people who can lead us into the future," said Gonyea. "Kevin has been around here a lot and knows the logistics of the college. Rachael has a great volleyball mind, and I suspect that working together they'll deliver a fine product on the court."
The women's volleyball team opens its 2024 season on September 5th when they play on the road against NHTI. The Mustangs begin the home portion of their schedule on September 24th.
