Auburn, ME – The CMCC volleyball squad continues its strong start to the season, picking up a 3-0 victory over NHTI on Tuesday night in Auburn. The Mustangs took the match 25-15, 25-15, and 25-16 over the Lynx. Ryleigh Clark had a solid serving game for the squad, Jaki Bartoschek came through with some timely blocks and kills, and setter Shalamar Szarka once again showed her touch dealing out plenty of assists.
Set one saw the Mustangs turn a 6-5 game into a 12-7 lead. CMCC did a nice job of continuing rallies and making it tough for NHTI to land kills. Up 17-12, Clark pushed the lead from the service line before Keliah Stith finished things off with an ace of her own for a 25-15 win.
Natalie Roy and Autumn Peterson combined for a few kills midway through the second set, breaking a 6-6 tie with a run of six straight points. That 12-6 advantage would balloon to a 17-9 lead allowing the Mustangs to ease to the finish line. A front row of Roy, Clark, and Isabella Higgins proved too strong in the latter stages with the freshman from Alabama ending set two the same way – an ace to grab a 25-15 win.
NHTI stayed closer in the third set, keeping within two points of CMCC up until a 15-13 score line. Clark helped the Mustangs pull away with some solid serves before Szarka closed things out herself with the final kill to seal the match.
Central Maine has yet to lose in YSCC play and has only four sets all year. One of those teams who took two sets off CMCC is their next opponent, Paul Smith's College. The Mustangs travel to Word of Life Bible Institute in New York for a quad match on Saturday, September 28th before visiting the ACPHS Panthers the next day.
