Volleyball Takes Two Wins at NHTI Quad Meet

Concord, NH – The Mustangs scored wins in both of their matches Saturday afternoon at the YSCC meet at NHTI's Goldie Crocker gymnasium. CMCC took down Word of Life Bible Institute 3-0 before holding off Paul Smith's College for a 3-2 win.

Game One @ Word of Life, 3-0 W

The Mustangs came out strong in the first set, setting the tempo early with kills by Jaki Bartoschek and Shalamar Szarka, taking a 1-0 lead in just under a half hour.

CMCC trailed early in the second set, but rallied to take a 27-25 victory in the win-by-two format. The third set was much more straightforward with Central Maine leading throughout to pick up the sweep in their first match.

Keliah Stith, Natalie Roy, and Ryleigh Clark all put in good work from the service line, and Isabella Higgins was particularly lethal on the attack helping secure the win.

Game Two @ Paul Smith's, 3-2 W

Set one showed that both teams were in for a long match, with a point-for-point battle going right down to the end before CMCC pulled out the win.

Paul Smith's evened things up by taking the second set 25-21, and took a 9-3 lead in the third set before Central Maine rallied back to earn a two sets to one lead.

The Bobcats took a commanding lead early in set number four and kept the Mustangs from getting too close on their way to a 25-16 win. That would force a fifth and deciding set to 15 to determine a winner.

CMCC's all freshman team leaned on its experience going to five sets against Husson earlier in the week. The Mustangs lost the first point but led from that point on, with Szarka delivering the final blow with an ace to pull out the match and keep their perfect start to YSCC play intact.

Up next on the schedule is a midweek road trip to Great Bay CC on Wednesday, September 18th, before facing the Albany College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences on a neutral court in South Portand next Sunday.
