Hockey Continues to Add Depth

Auburn, ME – Central Maine Community College ice hockey coach, Matt Buotte, has announced that the team has added Gorham, ME standout Tanner Garrand for the 2019-20 season. Garrand joins an increasingly impressive recruiting class that has the returning players and coaches anxious to begin work in the fall.

Garrand, who captained the Gorham Rams to a 10-8-0 record and a postseason berth as a senior, amassed 20 points (7 G, 13 A) in 16 games in his final high school year. He added a valuable goal in a first round playoff win for the Rams as well. He was deservedly named to the Class B South senior all-star team after his tremendous 2018-19 year.

"Tanner is going to be a fantastic addition to our club," said Buotte of the Mustangs latest recruit. "He brings exactly what we need. He can play up and down the line-up and he doesn't take a shift off. He is exactly what we need as we continue to build this program. I can't overstate how excited I am to get him in here. The Mustangs faithful are going to love this kid."

Garrand, who was a four year varsity player, was also the recipient of the teams Seventh Man award as a junior. As a humble personality with a penchant for hard work he figures to endear himself quickly to teammates when training camp opens in September.

"It's not easy to blow my own horn," Garrand remarked. "My teammates and former coaches have told me that they appreciate my tenacity, stamina, and loyalty. The truth is, I just want to be a reliable teammate for my team and a trustworthy player for my coaches."

Garrand, who is an avid outdoorsman, said that a smaller campus, affordable tuition, and the proximity to the Maine wilderness factored into his decision to attend CMCC.

"I'm still a little on the fence about a direction in life," he joked. "I am currently enrolled in the builder construction program, but I'm interested in adding some criminal justice classes as well. I would like to experience a few things and hopefully settle on something soon. I'm not really sure what I'm looking forward to most about CM, but I'm really excited to start the next chapter of my life and I think that CM will be a great fit."
