Men's Soccer Falls to UMF in Exhibition

Farmington, ME - On Monday, the Men's Soccer squad kicked off the 2016 campaign with an exhibition game at the University of Maine at Farmington (NCAA DIII).  The Mustangs fell 3-0 to the Beavers.

The Mustangs started out a good gate against UMF, and first 20 minutes both teams enjoyed a good match of give and take. At 20:20 Farmington's Nick Marshall on an assist from Jake Heimlich struck first. Then just 6:41 mins later a pass came from Nick Marshall to Ethan Cooper who drove home another goal. Again at 37:53 the Beavers sunk their teeth in when a cross from Robbie Paddack landed on the foot of Hunter Michaud for the third score. The Mustangs regrouped and were pressing for the last 5 minutes of the first half, but were unable to convert a corner kick by right forward Josh St. Pierre.

CMCC dug in and held off UMF for the last 45 minutes, giving an excellent defensive stand with efforts by Zach Peters, and Sam Storer. Austin Wing worked his magic in the goal with 11 saves out of 14 shots on goal. Offensively, Sid Jackson and Brandon Morrissett both had shots on goal.

According to Head Men's Soccer Coach, Bryan Wallace, "We are very proud of our team for coming together in our first match of the season.  Keeping UMF scoreless in the second half showed a lot of character.  Overall, it was an excellent effort by our team."

The Mustangs kick off YSCC action this Sunday, September 4th, when they travel to UMaine-Machias to take on the Clippers.
