Mustangs Subdue Visiting Rams

Auburn, ME – In their first home game of the season the Men's Soccer Team defeated Unity College 2-1 Friday evening. The Mustangs played well in the midfield and held possession for most of the first 15 minutes. CM forward Ricaija Simmons collected a through ball from midfielder Derek Gosselin to put the mustangs up 1-0 at the 28:48. Not to be out done, Unity's Collin Nafziger scored just four minutes later. The score held at 1-1 for halftime.

The Rams came out strong in the second half and had multiple chances to break the tie. But at 49:02 Mohamed Jibril put a ball over the head of the Unity goalkeeper to give the Mustangs the advantage. Again, Unity fought back but over the next 40 minutes could not convert.

CMCC had six shots on goal while Unity had five. Mustang's goalkeeper Austin Wing came up with five key saves as did the Rams keeper Derrick Bates.  Defensively Zachary Peters and Ibrahim Hussein played very well for CM.

After the game Head Men's Soccer Coach, Bryan Wallace said, "For the first part of the first half we played composed. I'm proud of how mentally tough our guys proved to be today; several times this afternoon we could have fallen apart. Eventually, Unity was able to work through our midfield and they had us scrambling for the last ten minutes. We need to be able to stay the course and play our game for ninety minutes."

The Mustangs move to a 1-1 conference record.
