Mustangs Take Machias to the Brink before Falling

Auburn, ME - Men's Soccer hosted the University of Maine Machias Friday afternoon looking for revenge for a loss in Machias earlier this season.  The Mustangs started strong earning a deep throw in just 1 minute into the game but Machias held them off and the teams quickly fell into a possession based back-and-forth game. Both teams weren't able to prove who was superior and the score remained 0-0 at half with Machias having a slight shot on goal advantage.

The 66th minute saw the Clipper's Lorenzo Segura one-time a loose ball following a corner kick into the Mustang net. Just one minute later the Clipper's had another opportunity when a penalty kick was awarded and Maslah Hassan stepped up to take it. CM keeper, Austin Wing, made a great save and kept the game close. In the closing two minutes the Mustangs had several opportunities, including a breakaway by Ricaija Simmons which Machias keeper Tristan Hout made a great save on, and a corner kick from CMCC captain Brandon Morissette, which found a powerful header from Sidney Jackson that just missed the goal high.

Austin Wing had 3 saves in goal for CMCC for the day.  While Tristan Hout had 2 for Machias. After the game Head Men's Soccer Coach, Bryan Wallace said, "It's funny, this game was far more frustrating than when Machias beat us 5-1 for the first game of the year. It was obvious that this group has worked hard and really improved in the last 3 weeks. It was a good game. Our guys really shut them down this time but we still need some work on our finishing."
