Softball Drops Both Games of Doubleheader

CM Lady Mustangs hit the road to South Portland for a season-opening doubleheader on the campus of Southern Maine Community College.  Game 1 of the doubleheader matched CM up against the Lynx of NHTI.

NHTI grabbed an early lead with hot bats in the first inning, scoring 2 runs.  CM was just the opposite, as the Mustangs' bats took a few innings to come alive.  CM placed runners in scoring position, but only crossed the plate once, in the 4th, when Michelle Malia (Lewiston, ME) drove in Erica Brochu (Lewiston, ME).

NHTI slowly added to their lead and took game 1 with a final of 8–1.  Freshman, Erica Brochu threw the complete game for CM.

In game 2 of the doubleheader, the Lady Mustangs took on the University of New Hampshire Club.

Freshman, Michelle Malia took the mound for CM.  UNH jumped to a  3–0 lead after the 1st inning.  In the 3rd inning, CM's Laura Soohey (Bremen, ME) went deep to the fence for a triple.  Erica Brochu followed up Soohey's triple with a grounder to third and reached first base on a fielder's choice when Soohey got in a run down.  A well timed turn towards home allowed Soohey to safely slide under the tag at home plate.  UNH opened up the lead in the 4th inning and held onto a 9–1 victory.

The Lady Mustangs fall to 0-2 on the year and are back in action next Saturday, September 21st, when they travel to Concord, NH to take on NHTI in a doubleheader.
