Mustangs Drop Double-Header to Fighting Saints

SOUTH PORTLAND, Maine—The CM Mustangs softball team dropped both games to the Fighting Saints from the College of St. Josephs (VT) at SMCC in a Yankee Conference double-header.

Game 1: L, 5-0

This game was a pitcher's duel. Sophomore Olivia York (Bethel, ME) started in the circle to go the distance in game one. The right-hander allowed three earned runs over six hits while fanning 14.

First-years Alex Bessey (Jay, ME) and Abby Fogg (Buckfield, ME) each collected a hit at the plate for the Mustangs

In the other dugout, Jenna Crowley notched the  win throwing 7.0 innings. Arielys Rodriguez smacked a double from the plate.

 

Game 2: L, 12-7 (6 Innings game stopped due to daylight )

Sophomore Olivia York (Bethel, ME) again got the nod in part-two followed by first-year Alex Bessey (Jay, ME) who provided 2 innings of relief work.

York and Ali Sult (Lisbon, ME) each collected a double while both recording two RBI's each. The Mustangs made a rally in the sixth inning scoring 5 runs but that was not enough before the umpires called the game due to lack of sunlight. The Fighting Saints offense pushed across twelve runs while Shelby Fenton led the team with 4 hits.

The Mustangs get back to work next week in conference game at Great Bay Community College on Saturday, April 14. First pitch is scheduled for 12 p.m.
